Clinical Social Worker

Virginia Avery, owner of Avery Counseling & Services, LLC, is a Missoula based Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), member of the Phi Alpha Honor Society and recipient of the Hollibert Phillips Scholastic Achievement Award from Walla Walla University. She is a United States Navy Veteran, Former Wildland Firefighter (USFS- Valyermo Interagency Hotshots) and proud mother of four.  Her social work back ground includes positions at the Missoula State Office of Public Defenders, Mountain Home Montana, Families First Learning Lab, Integrated Therapy Works, and as a Comprehensive School and Community Based Therapist (CSCT), providing assessments, therapy, crisis intervention and case management.

Virginia specializes in neuro-affirming care, diagnostics, and parenting support, as well as resilience focused psychoeducation and critical incident support, specific to wildland fire communities. She has provided facilitation and / or consultation for the following agencies, schools, and organizations: Walla Walla University, University of Montana, Hamilton Youth Homes, Mountain Home Montana, Families First Learning Lab (Missoula, Mt.), WTREX: Women in Fire Training Exchanges, WTREX Webinar: Mental Health and Resilience, Ember Alliance, Fire Learning Network, the Nature Conservancy, Montana Department of Natural Resources, and the United States Forest Service. Her lived experience as a First Responder, Mother, and as a Neurodivergent individual has helped guide her clinical presentations and practice.
